Why is the checksum important?
- Make better VRN bidding decisions, especially if you are bidding for a new series to be released by LTA. You can make a better decision knowing the full registration number for 1, 2 or 3 digit plates.
- Ensure the authenticity of car plates. Whether if the car is Singapore-registered or Malaysia-registered, you may validate it with this calculator to avoid any suspicious cars.
How it works:
- Only the last 2 letters of prefix are used (A=1, B=2... Z=26)
- Numbers are padded to 4 digits with leading zeros
- Each digit is multiplied by: 9, 4, 5, 4, 3, 2
- Sum is divided by 19, remainder maps to checksum letter
